PR.com is a unique site in that press release storage and distribution is only a small section of a wider website. The website sets itself up as a dynamic company directory across several sectors and industries which allow companies to post up information about themselves, their operations, job vacancies, areas of common interest for business development and of course, press releases and media information. Another key advantage or facet to acknowledge is that the service is free.
PR.com recognizes its unique marketplace model and its primary aim for companies to promote their news and services among themselves primarily, and wider audiences secondarily. Describing themselves as a PR and advertising entity, the directory and company profiles is a lead generation tool as well as publicity and interest generator.
PR.com offers a free release hosting and distribution service along with placement in their multiple database subjects. They also offer an email newsletter offering to be sent to subscribers and member companies.
The press release offering without signing up for inclusion in the database is free.
The first level of membership to PR.com costs $199 a year and is described as the Gold level. This level contains a full company profile and inclusion in the business, product and services sections of the database. 10 product or service postings within the database are allowed, placement in database searches, 30 job vacancy postings a year, one free URL link to the company homepage, and a free webpage for the company with PR.com. This also comes with four free anchor text links (two within press releases and two within the PR.com company website page).
The second level of membership costs $499 a year and includes all of the features of the Gold level of membership along with unlimited product and services postings, priority placement in services and internal database searches, 100 free job vacancy postings annually, 10 free anchor text links available and additional enhanced visibility which includes free articles about the company appearing on PR.com; Platinum company insignia displayed next to all company entries and job vacancies rotated in a top jobs section of the site.
PR.com’s model and database is comprehensive in its range, breadth and depth of companies, industries, releases and profiles on offer for the interested browser. It is unique among other sites and could be more fairly described as a business listings site with a free press release distribution facility included rather than a release distributor that is also a database.
While PR.com is a unique entity in the press release distribution Parthenon, its design is very minimal and underwhelming for a site with such great ambitions. For #199 a year, members of the site could reasonably expect something little more than a text-based website and engine. If a customer is interested in widening their business contacts, profile and exploring business opportunities online then PR.com is well worth considering. If they are just interested in sending press releases then they might be better to consider a more specialized and focused press release distribution site.
